MOBILE FIRST
Mobile First Responsive Wed Design
Responsive web design (RWD) is an approach to web design that makes web pages render well on a variety of devices and window or screen sizes. Google officially began rolling out the Mobile First index in March 2018. Smart web developers and marketers were taking a mobile-first approach long before the official rollout.
RWD means that I start the product design from the mobile end which has more restrictions, then expand its features to create a tablet or desktop version.
Progressive Advancement means that when we design a product, first we build a version for the relatively lower browser (like that on a mobile phone). This version includes the most basic functions & features. After that, we tend to the advanced version for a tablet or PC.
The mobile first strategy is a term coined to refer to the primacy of mobile networks made up of smartphones attached to a large network coverage area.
Mobile First Web Design. Why is it important?
In the past, designers would start with a desktop version first as a significant part of web traffic came from these devices. Mobile-first is a concept when website design is upgrading from a smartphone level to desktop and laptop versions. The adaptive design shouldn’t be confused with responsiveness or mobile-first as it adapts a website only to certain screen specifications.
The world of mobile devices, historically, has two camps – lovers of Apple and supporters of Android. While they try to justify their reasons to hate this or that phone, there’s one thing they have in common: they’ll hate it equally when a website doesn’t work well on their smartphones.
